2021/2022 – Two weeks tour

Tour begins in the hub of Dubai where we transfer to AUH airport.
Board the 10am flight to Socotra, 11am arrival in Habido, Socotra.

We’ll be greeted by our local Socotri guide who will accompany us for
the trip.

Day 1: Ayhaft canyon and Delisha beach

Upon your arrival at Socotra airport, you will be transferred to the hotel in Hadibo/Adeeb’s eco-lodge to acclimatize and have lunch. After lunch, we will be heading to Ayhaft Canyon National Park. In the canyon (valley), you will enjoy large freshwater pools where you can swim or soak. All around you, there will be a variety of endemic plants like Dessert Rose, Tamarind trees, Cucumber trees, and a wide variety of birds such as Socotra Sparrow, Socotra Sunbird, and both Socotri and Somali Starlings. After swimming, we will drive to Delisha beach which consists of pristine white sands full of crabs. You will relax while swimming both in the sea and in a freshwater lagoon. If you are full of energy you can climb a huge sand dune overseeing the beach. There is also a possibility of watching a fabulous sunset from Delisha.

Day 2: Dihammri Marine P.A

After breakfast, we will drive to the island’s northeast coast to explore the surreal snorkeling/diving site in Dihammri. The Marine Protected Area of Dihammri is home to dozens of species of colorful marine
life and it is one of the richest coral reefs on the archipelago. Dihammri is blessed with more than 200 fish species and 4 of the 5 coral species that inhabit the island. This shallow reef will let even the inexperienced snorkeler enjoy its beauty as well as seeing varied marine lives including; parrotfish, moray eel, rays, turtles, small sharks, dolphins, etc. Diving/snorkeling gear can be hired from Dihammri Diving Center. There is also a possibility of watching a fabulous sunset from Dihammri.

Day 3 | Homhil Natural Protected Area

We will drive to the natural protected area of Homhil; which is home to an endless number of the Socotri endemic plants like Dragon’s Blood Tree, Frankincense Tree, and Desert Rose, etc.
Once in Homhill, we will walk along with a selection of trails, one of which takes us to a viewpoint where there is a natural swimming pool and a view of villages below on the plain. So you can swim and enjoy a
breathtaking panorama view over the Arabian Sea which makes you feel you are in a natural infinity hotel

Day 4 | Wadi Shifa – Ras Erisel – Arher Beach

We will hike down from Homhil Plateau to the north-east coast of the island to Wadi Shifa (medium – two hours walking) where the cars can meet us. Then after a quick lunch, we will drive to Ras Erisel which is situated at the eastern end of the island where the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean are meeting and many ships have been sinking there. After that, we will make our way to Arher beach. Here a fresh creek comes out and meets the salty ocean water. We will have time to relax, swim or climb some of the massive sand dunes as we set up camp and prepare dinner.

Day 5 | Hoq Cave – Rosh Marin P.A.

After an early breakfast, we will drive to Terbak village where Hoq Cave is located. Then we will hike up for one hour and a half till we reach the entrance of the cave, then about 1 hour in the side of the cave.
After exploring the cave, we will walk down for one hour and a half. Hoq is the largest cave on the island and it is 3.2 km deep, the cave holds a wealth of Socotri history and hides archeological findings such as
pieces of pottery, paintings, and wooden tables with inscriptions in Aramaic language dating back to 258 AD. The cave offers an overwhelming beauty and variety of crystal decorations, like stalagmites,
stalactites, and calcite floors. Late afternoon, we will proceed to the marine protected of Rosh to explore one of the best snorkeling/diving sites on Socotra. Rosh is home to dozens of species of colorful marine life and it is one of the richest coral reefs on the archipelago. Diving/ snorkeling in Rosh will enable you to see several coral communities and different t species of colorful marine life including moray eel, rays, turtles, sharks, and dolphins.

Day 6 | Wadi Defarhu – Hayf & Zahak Sand Dunes- Digub cave – Omak P.A.

We will drive to the southern coast of the Island, through the interesting Defarhu Valley. Alongside, you will see traditional villages, natural water pools at the bottom of the canyon, and the unusual Desert  Rose tree that clings many places on the canyon walls. The vegetation here is lush green and there are many birds. After lunch, we will drive to Hayf and Zahek village to witness the massive sand dunes which have been
pushed up against the mountainside by the seasonal winds of Socotra. Then we will make our way to Digub cave, which overlooks a scattering of traditional villages below. The cave itself is of interest as there are many stalactites, stalagmites, and pools of water that have seeped through the rock over time. After caving, we will drive to a very expensive sandy beach of Omak in the Indian Ocean. Once at Omak,
feel free to swim, sunbathe, and relax in the crystal clear water of the Indian Ocean.

Day 7 | Dixam Plateau – Shebhon Viewpoint – Wadi Dirhur Canyon

After breakfast, we will make our way to Dixam plateau (approx. 700 m above sea level) and Shebahon viewpoint. This area is home to an endless number of Socotri endemic plants such as Dragon’s Blood tree. The Dragon’s Blood trees are abundant here, looking like giant mushrooms from outer space. We will be able to witness lots of vultures circle overhead in the warm winds. The Shebahon viewpoint gives a marvelous vista overlooking Daerhu canyon where we will see breathtaking sceneries and unusual yet beautiful rock formations. We will then make our way down to the Wadi in the canyon for lunch and an easy-going walk to swim in the freshwater pools. The rest of the day is spent in exploring the canyon.

Day 8 | Rockeb Fermihen (Forest of Dragon’s Blood Trees) – Wadi Dirhur

After breakfast, we will make our way by 4×4 vehicles to the largest forest of Dragon’s Blood Tree in Rockeb Fermihen area to enjoy the remarkable landscapes and amazing and unique plants of Socotra
called Dragon’s Blood Tree. After lunch, we will be heading to the wonderful wadi of Dirhur to explore the canyon there as well as enjoying and relaxing in the wadi. In the wadi, you will be able to swim in the
beautiful natural swimming pool as well as taking nice photos of the amazing landscapes and sceneries of the canyon.

Day 9 | Qalansyia – Detwah Lagoon P.A.

We will explore the western part of the island. Our first stop will be Qalansiya; a small traditional fishing town. From there we will continue to explore Detwah lagoon which is a marine protected area renowned for its magical landscape. This area has some of the best views on the island. Once in Detwah, you will be charmed by white sands surrounded by turquoise-coloured warm waters of the bay, an endless horizon, and an array of sea birds. You can swim both in the shallow sea and in the
lagoon as well but be careful with stingrays.

Day 10 | Shuaab Golden Beach – Hadibo

After an early breakfast, we will hop on a boat and head to Shuaab. We are very likely to see Spinner Dolphins and other sea life such as Cormenons, sea Gulls, and Grey Herons birds which are flying or
resting on the cliffs. Once in Shuaab, feel free to swim, relax and enjoy this pristine place as well as have a look at a mangrove area. After exploring the surrounding mangroves in the area we will head back to
Qalansiya. We will end our day by making the long drive back to Hadibo.

Day 11 | Hadibo – Haghier Mountains

After an early breakfast, we will make our way to the highest peak of Socotra (Haghier mountains) and the trip will take around one hour by car. Haghier is a chain of mountains that are located in the central
part of the island and are considered as the highest mountains on the island (1,500 feet) from sea level. In the mountains, you will enjoy wonderful landscapes, views and you will see different types of the
unique plants and birds of Socotra. The weather there is pleasant and cool and from Haghier you will be able to have a panorama view of the north and east parts of the island.

Day 12 | Diborak Water full – Momi Plateau

We will explore the east part of the island. Our first stop will be in Diborak waterfall, in the wadi, you will be able to swim and enjoy the waterfall which comes from the mountains of Momi. After a quick
lunch, we will make our way to Momi plateau. Alongside, you will see traditional villages, natural water pools at the bottom of the canyon, and the unusual Desert Rose tree and frankincense trees that cling
many places on the canyon walls and mountains.

Day 13 | Wadi Daghnghen – Sirhen Lagoon – Hadibo

After breakfast, we will be heading to Wadi Daghnghen (north-east of Hadibo) to explore the breathtaking views and landscapes of the Wadi as well as to swim in the natural pools of Daghnghen.
After lunch, we will continue our way to Sirhen lagoon to watch unique and endemic birds of Socotra such as flamingo, grey heron, seagull, etc. Once we have done watching birds, we come back to Hadibo to make a tour in its old shops to buy natural products of the island as souvenirs.

Day 14 | Wadi Ayhaft & Saheb beach

On this day we will be exploring the valley of Ayhaft, the valley lies between two beautiful mountains and small freshwater in between, in the afternoon we will head to Saheb beach to spend the rest of the
afternoon in the area.
End of the Tour.

Day 15 | Fly Home

After breakfast, we will be transferred back to the airport to visit the visitor information Center before taking your flight back.

Accommodation in Socotra

The island of Socotra is one of the most isolated places on earth. Tourism is at its infantry stages and as such, facilities like hotels, internet and roads are still very basic. You will be camping for each nights as described in the itinerary, and all camping equipment will be provided.

  • Day 2 – Homhil National Park | ArherAfter breakfast we’ll head to Homhil National Park. The Park is famous for its supply of the famous Dragon blood trees. These can only be found on Socotra. The bottle tree and cucumber plant can also be found here. After walking for an hour or so, we’ll reach an incredible crystal-clear pool complete with views over the whole southern part of the island.Lunch.Those feeling adventurous can descend the mountain by foot. Others can walk back to the jeep and be driven down to the beach.Drive to Arher.This is the point where freshwater and saltwater meet creating a natural phenomenon. The area is surrounded by giant dunes.You are free to walk around the area on your own. Those capable can climb the 300m-high sand dune!Dinner and overnight in Arher.
  • Day 3 – Arher | Hoq’s Cave | Raw Ersil | Dihamri Marine Protected AreaAfter waking up next to the ocean you can choose between 2 morning activities:A hike to Hoq’s Cave (4 hours).  OR:Drive to Raw Erisel, the meeting point of the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.Drive to Dihamri Marine Protected Area.Scuba diving and snorkelling are available here (extra cost) or you can also join the local fishermen for a sea trip!We’ll bring back our catch of the day for dinner in Dihamri. .Overnight in the Dihamri Protected Area.
  • Day 4 – DixsamDrive to the Dixsam Plateau. This is the most famous area for Dragon Blood trees.Stop for photos at Shehahon’s viewpoint.Lunch in the village of Dixsam. Here we’ll meet the head of the village who will tell us more about of the people living on Socotra Island.Stop at Wadi Derhur for a walk. Hike through the beginning of Fermahin – a forest of Dragon Blood trees.Tonight we’ll mingle with the locals for dinner and tea at a villageDinner and overnight at a homestay.
  • Day 5 – Zahek & Hayf | Dagub | AmakAfter breakfast we’ll walk through the village accompanied by our new friends.Drive towards the South coast at Nogud.Explore the big sand dunes at Amak Beach where you can swim in the sea.Visit the cave of Dagub.Lunch at the cave or at Amak Beach.Dinner and overnight in Dixsam, surrounded by Dragon Blood trees!
  • Day 6 – Qalansiya | ShuaabEarly morning drive to Qalansiya, the second largest town on the island.We’ll take a boat trip to Shuaab, passing by stunning rock formations and plenty of native birdlife.Relax at the most beautiful beach on the island. Picnic lunch on the beach.Drive onto Detwah Lagoon.Here we’ll make camp and you can walk around the huge lagoon.Camping at Detwah Eco-campsite.
  • Day 7 – HadiboReturn to Hadibo.City tour of Hadibo and learn more about life in Yemen.Our first stop will be the women’s market.Next up it’s the fish market. This place gets very lively and we can join in on an auction!We’ll then head to the khat market; Yemeni’s are one of the biggest Khat users in the world.We will stop by the door makers; these artists have been making ornate doors for centuries.We finish our day trip popping by a local school where we meet students, teachers, and give a quick english class.Tonight is our last night in paradise, so it’s one last big feast!Overnight in our hotel in Hadibo.
  • Day 8 – Habido – Abu Dhabi/DubaiFree time to explore before we catch our 14:00 flight to Dubai.Arrival at approx 17:30 local time.End of Socotra tour.

2021/2022 – Fishing tour

Itinerary: 6 days fishing + 1 day visiting

Day 1:  Arrival in Socotra (Hadibo + Diksam plateau)

Upon your arrival to Socotra  International Airport  you will be met by your driver/guide and be transferred to Socotra Hotel in Hadibo for check in, short refresh and lunch. Late afternoon we can drive you to Dixam plateau to visit the forest of Dragon’s blood tree. Overnight accommodation and dinner in Hadibo hotel or eco-lodge

Day 2 to 7: Sport fishing, base at spot Ras Iresal

Breakfast will be served very early (5:00 am) in Socotra Hotel to exploit the best part of the day on the sea. Transfer by 4×4 car  to the most interesting fishing spot of Socotra, called Ras Iresal, in the North-East coast of Socotra; it is also the point where the Indian Ocean and the Arabian sea meet. Upon your arrival to the fishing spot go out for first fishing catch, with local fishermen to enjoy your time. The fishing trip in the morning lasts about 6 hours, boats are coxed by local fishermen very well skilled in this sea/Ocean and traditional fishing, but not such well trained in modern fishing techniques .Most of the anglers prefer to practice  popping and vertical jigging…

Lunch will be served at the beach. Relax and enjoy the island nature. Later you can do more fishing as spinning from the coast ( at your choice white sand beach or cliffs) or from the boats, ready at your service all the time.

Overnight accommodation: Dinner and overnight at the camp base or hotel in Hadibo

Day 8: Goodbye for Now! | Hadibo – Home

Getting to Socotra island

Socotra Dream can assist you booking your tickets, issueing your visa and organize your entire trip to Socotra.

In according with the date of the domestic flight we will help you to find the best combination.

Visa

Yemeni visa regulations have been changed several times and obtaining entry visa upon arrival was canceled in February 2010. It is necessary for non-Yemeni passport holders to obtain an entry visa to go to Yemen whether the trip is for tourism or business. Therefore, you must get your entry visa in advance. The procedure however is not complicated and almost any nationality should be able to get an entry visa. For your convenience Socotra Dream  is able to issue visas for its clients in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Yemen. Just send us the colorful copy of your passport by email. The issuing process will require about 5 – 7 days to be completed. Once the entry visa is issuing and ready,  Socotra Dream  will email you an electronic copy of the original visa. The original copy will be handed to you by our visa sponsor upon your arrival and he will assist you at immigration office at the airport.

Day 1: Wednesday – Arehr Beach

Upon arrival in Socotra you will make your way to Arehr Beach, located in the north-east of the Island. Surrounded by giant dunes and split by a creek flowing from the mountain into the crystal clear ocean waters, the pristine beauty here is like no other! You will have time to relax, swim or climb some of the massive sand dunes as we set up camp and prepare dinner. The first night in Socotra will be spent camping under the stars in Arehr Beach.

Day 2: Thursday – Discovering Hoq Cave & Ras Israel 

This morning you will make your way to the mysterious Hoq Cave in the village of Terbak. With a wealth of Socotri history, it is more than worth the 3 km walk to its entrance. Inside, you will see various geographic features like stalactites, stalagmites, magical crystallic formations and calcite floors. Ancient writings and diagrams in the cave have been preserved over the ages by a calcite glaze and were only recently discovered. There is also evidence to suggest that the cave was once used for ritual purposes by the presence of mysterious ‘altars’. You will enjoy lunch before continuing to the eastern tip of the island, Ras Israel. You will dine and overnight at Arehr Beach, one of the most beautiful parts of the island where the fresh water a natural hot spring meets the salty water from the Arabian Sea.

Day 3: Friday – Trek to Homhil, Exploring the South, Amak Beach

After breakfast, you will drive to the bottom of Wadi Shafa and continue on foot to the Homhil swimming pool. The scenery is right out of Jurassic Park! Homhil swimming pool is composed of fresh water and is surrounding by the infamous dragon blood tree, endemic to the island of Socotra. You will then continue via vehicle to the south, with visits to traditional Yemeni villages along the way…a real glimpse into local life!  You will have dinner and overnight in Amak’s eco-campsite on the beach surrounded by palm trees and sand dunes.

Day 4: Saturday – Dagub cave & Zahek sand dunes 

After lunch you will visit Dagub Cave overlooking the villages southern coast. Interestingly, the cave is of great importance to the local shepherds, as they gather their goat in the cave during monsoon season in order to protect them. You will then explore the snow-white sand dunes of Hayf and Zahek which have been pushed up against the mountainside by the seasonal winds. If you want to be active, you can climb the dunes for a view that is truly worth the effort! You will enjoy dinner and have another overnight in Amak eco-campsite.

Day 5: Sunday – Dixam Plateau

After breakfast, you will visit Dixam Plateau and Shebahon viewpoint. This area is renowned for dragon blood trees. Aside from their appearance, the tree is significant to the local community as its resin is used and traded all over the country; curiously, the resin is used for make-up and to help with internal bleeding during childbirth!

The area is also home to the extremely rare bird species, the Socotra Bunting, among other fascinating flora and fauna. The Shebahon viewpoint gives a fabulous vista overlooking a canyon where you will see unusual rock formations. You will make your way down the wadi for lunch and enjoy an easy walk around the water, and even a swim in a freshwater pool! It is truly a paradise by Mother Nature. You will have dinner and spend the night in Dixam.

Day 6 : Monday – Qalansyia & Detwah lagoon

After Breakfast we will drive to the western part of the island, to the charming fishermen’s town of Qalansyia. It consists of traditional Socotri houses, winding alleyways and a long beach full of fishing boats ready to set off for today’s catch. You will continue to neighboring Detwah lagoon, which is a marine protected area renowned for its astounding landscape. The beach around it is completely secluded and is surrounded by turquoise waters. You can swim in the shallow sea or relax in the lagoon – just watch out for stingrays (you can’t miss them in the crystal clear water!). You will have dinner and overnight in Detwah eco-camping site.

Day 7 : Tuesday – Shu’ab Beach & Qalanysia Beach

After breakfast in Detwah, you will on a boat safari to Shu’ab Beach; abundant cormorant birds above and spinner dolphins below! Shu’ab has a lush mangrove area set against the the beach – a perfect spot to enjoy lunch. You will have some free time to enjoy the clear waters and endless beach before embarking on a boat ride back to Qalansyia. Line fishing is possible from the boat if you want to catch your tonight’s dinner! You will spend the night in Detwah’s eco-camping site.

Day 8: Wednesday – Departure from Socotra

You will enjoy breakfast and last moments on the beach before being transferred to the airport in time for your return flight.
